Lama Mark has been requested to provide teachings on The Mahamudra and will give a detailed exposition on the text: "The Mahamudra Eliminating the Ignorance of Darkness by the 9th Kar-ma-pa Wang-chu'g Dor-je". He will also supplement this with other profound teachings by the 9th Karmapa and many other Kagyu lineage holders.

Foundations of Mindfulness with Lama Mark Webber

We are fortunate to have Lama Mark Webber lead us in meditations and give teachings on the many facets of classic Buddhist mindfulness training and as they relate to some discoveries in neuropsychology. He will explain the Four Foundations of Mindfulness and give some profound instructions from the Mahamudra and Dzogchen tradition.
Lama Mark writes: “Without developing a high degree of mindfulness, concentration does not get very strong and for sure, Insight (Vipassana) into the nature of self and phenomena will be scattered at best. Our organisms are highly attentive, moment by moment to inner and outer things, even if "we" are not. Why not allow the natural attentiveness to open to conscious awareness? It is quite straightforward-one must train-but mindfulness requires a good deal more than technique. One must really understand where one is headed. However, to discover the natural mindfulness or lucid awareness requires us to make discoveries and relax into non-clinging. And this art must be taught. Non-clinging is inherent in every moment of awareness. Let's learn to wake this up. When we deepen this Insight with compassion it's one of the most intelligent, loving activities we could ever cultivate.”

Presently, Lama Mark is in a private meditation retreat here on Galiano Island. Earlier today we received a message from Lama Mark that he would like to expand the title for the The Crystal Mountain Annual Winter Retreat in Guatemala. Lama Mark would like to include Contemplating the Nature of Illusion; Teachings on the 12 signs of Illusion from the Indian Tantric Tradition to the previously advertised title “The Union of Compassion & Primordial Awareness”.
Teachings and meditations will be given based on the text, "Contemplating Illusion through Loving All Life", as well as Empowerments (Wongkurs) from the Highest Yoga Tantra's to be announced during the retreat.

Lama Mark has been requested to give teaching and a retreat on the Sixty Qualities of Buddha’s Speech.
“Through Compassion and Wisdom an extraordinary range of communication is possible. The sixty qualities of Buddha’s speech, as described in texts is astounding in its range and depth. Yet, we can all strive to garner and develop these qualities for the benefit of ourselves and all beings. In this meditation retreat we will explore many types of communication, both inner and outer, to craft ever deeper, richer, wiser moments of speech and communication. We will ask some fundamental questions: Why speech? Why communicate? Inner and outer sounds; what is the range and what do these tones do? How did communication and speech evolve and to what degree can we elevate it? In asking these questions we will keep returning to the descriptions of the 60 qualities or ‘tones’ of Awakened Speech and see if we can bring forth, even a little, each one. There will be three Empowerments bestowed in this retreat: Buddha Sakyamuni-Manjusri, Sarasvati and Vajra Yogini. To refine our speech, like refining gold from its ore, we purify both inner and outer narrative stories or dialogues—the ‘tones’ of mind. This process of awareness and purification leads to profound changes in our physiology and experience.” LM

September 18th to October 17th, 2010 - One Month Autumn Teachings and Retreat: Introduction to Abhidhamma and /Insight-Wisdom through discriminating awareness (topic for the month: introducing the method of contemplation, developing discrimination and inquiry, states (citta) and factors (cetasika) of consciousness, the interplay of states, meditative states and nature of transcendence).
Cost: TBA – Accommodation for the 1 month Abhidhamma retreat is by finding rental home/B&B accommodation. Registration for this 1 month Abhidhamma retreat needs to be made by application to Lama Mark directly. Please note: Lama Mark has strongly requested that applicants for retreats make the 3-week December retreat above a priority, before making requests to attend the 1-month Abhidhamma retreat. It would be a wonderful and an easeful way for you to settle into the retreat space and beautiful property by being there for those two days - not to mention how much fun it can be with the kids and workshops that people will be putting on ...
